  19.     Installation of ZTreeWin is very simple.  There are no registry
  20.     settings made, no files copied to your system directory - just a
  21.     directory with the contents of this archive, and a shortcut.
  22.  
  23.     If you are upgrading from an older version of ZTree, make sure it is
  24.     NOT running before proceeding with the installation.
  25.  
  26.     Run ZTW149.EXE, which will extract the files to a temporary directory,
  27.     then launch INSTALL.EXE.  The installation program will prompt you for
  28.     a directory in which to install ZTree.  If you are upgrading, make sure
  29.     to enter your existing directory name.  You will also be given the
  30.     option to backup certain configuration files in order to return to your
  31.     previous version.
  32.     Once all files have been installed, the configuration program will be
  33.     launched, to enable you to set your initial preferences.  It is very
  34.     important that you use F3 to SAVE your configuration even if you do not
  35.     make any changes.  You can return to the configuration from ZTreeWin at
  36.     any time later using Alt-F10.
  37.

  40.     If you prefer to install the program manually, here are the
  41.     required steps:
  42.  
  43.     - Create a subdirectory on your hard drive called 'ZTree'. This may be
  44.       C:\Program Files\ZTree, or simply C:\ZTree, or anywhere else you prefer.
  45.  
  46.       NOTE: If you chose to install to a directory other than
  47.             C:\Program Files\ZTree, you should modify the included .BAT
  48.             files to reflect your selected path.
  49.  
  50.     - Unzip the contents of ZTW149.EXE to this new directory.
  51.  
  52.     - If you wish to be able to run ZTree in a commnd prompt from any
  53.       directory, you may wish to edit the "C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT" file, and
  54.       add/edit your PATH statement to include the ZTree directory:
  55.       eg. SET PATH=%PATH%;C:\PROGRA~1\ZTREE
  56.  
  57.       NOTE: Use the short path name to avoid possible problems with Windows
  58.             interpreting the PATH, and do not include the quotes in the
  59.             AUTOEXEC.BAT file).
  60.  
  61.       NOTE: Under Windows NT/2000/XP, set the PATH to ZTree in the Control
  62.       Panel/System/Environment setting.
  63.  
  64.     Whether you install ZTree using INSTALL.EXE, or install it manually,
  65.     you may need to do some or all of the following:
  66.  
  67.     - If you have an existing registration (ZTW.KEY), ensure this is
  68.       in the ZTree directory.
  69.  
  70.     - The current version of ZTree has internal support for viewing and
  71.       extracting ZIP compatible files.  However, in order to support ZIP
  72.       file creation, and to support other compression file types in ZTree,
  73.       follow these steps:
  74.  
  75.           - You must have one or more third-party archiver programs,
  76.             (such as PKZIP for ZIP files), installed on your computer.
  77.             These should be the "command line" versions of these programs,
  78.             and must be accessible in your "PATH" statement. It is strongly
  79.             suggested that all command line archiver programs be located
  80.             in a short path with no spaces.
  81.  
  82.           - Here are the locations of several popular archiver programs:

  90.           - The ARCHIVER.BB2 file controls these compression features.
  91.             You should review this file. It usually works without
  92.             modification, but you should check that it references
  93.             programs that are in your "PATH", and that the command
  94.             lines are correct for your archiver program version(s).
  95.  
  96.           - To view files within an archive file, you MUST have an
  97.             environment variable for TMP or TEMP defined. For example,
  98.             place the line: "SET TMP=C:\TMP" in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
  99.  
  100.           - Modify your "C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT" file to include the path to your
  101.             archiver programs. For example, if they are in C:\UTILS, the
  102.             line might be "SET PATH=%PATH%;C:\PROGRA~1\ZTREE;C:\UTILS".
  103.  
  104.     - Review the sample *.BAT files included to point them to your
  105.       available applications and viewers.  The .BAT file with the name
  106.       matching the currently highlighted file will be executed when you
  107.       'O'pen the file.  See FAQ.TXT for instructions on using various
  108.       file viewers from XTreeGold(tm).
  109.  
  110.     - To migrate your existing XTreeGold installation, you may copy
  111.       over the following files (and rename) to use with ZTreeWin:
  112.  
  113.           XTGOLD.CFG   -> ZTW.INI (color scheme only)
  114.           XTGOLD.HST   -> ZTW.HST
  115.           XTG_MENU.DAT -> ZTW_MENU.DAT
  116.  
  117.     - The first time you run ZTW, select Alt-F10 (Configure) to set user
  118.       preferences including program colors and default editor & viewer.
  119.       Press [F3] to leave the configuration screen, or your changes
  120.       will be lost.
  121.  
  122.     - To run ZTreeWin from the Windows 95 or NT desktop, create a shortcut
  123.       to ZTWIN.BAT (see the next step to create ZTWIN.BAT). Then, edit the
  124.       properties of this shortcut to specify fonts etc.  You may also
  125.       choose to use one of the included .ICOs to help identify the new
  126.       shortcut.

  128.     - If you want to use the Alt-Q command to exit to the current
  129.       directory in a command prompt, you *must* run a batch file named
  130.       ZTWIN.BAT to invoke ZTW.EXE.  This file will be created in the same
  131.       path as ZTW.EXE, when you issue the Alt-Q command.

  133.     - Also refer to ZTREE.INF for a method to add ZTreeWin to the action
  134.       menu of your drives for easy access.
  135.  
  136.     - Basic ZTreeWin operational help can be accessed within the program
  137.       with the F1 key.
